Predictable and Optimised Braking; Control of Wheel/Rail Interface Conditions using Dry-Ice Blasting
Provider: Rail Safety and Standards Board Limited
Programme: R&D programme
Implementation period: 01.07.15 - 31.12.15
Workplace:
Dopravní fakulta Jana Pernera - Výukové a výzkumné centrum v dopravě
Investigator: Voltr Petr
Description:
One way to overcome the problem of variable rail adhesion is to clean the rail head as the braking process is occurring. This project will investigate the possiblity of cleaning the rail head by blasting in with pellets of dry-ice. A key aspect of the work will be related to the optimisation of the process to ensure the dry-ice is used in the most effective way to achieve a targeted braking performance (i.e., controlled traction recovery).
