Urban Car Flow - Advanced modeling of urban traffic flows using empirical vehicle trajectory data captured between camera observation nodes

Provider: Ministerstvo školství, mládeže a tělovýchovy
Programme: Operační program Jan Amos Komenský - výzkum
Implementation period: 01.07.26 - 30.06.28
Workplace: Dopravní fakulta Jana Pernera - Katedra informatiky a matem. v dopravě
Investigator: Jahodová Berková Andrea
Team member: Bulíček Josef | Krbálková Michaela | Matoušová Ivana | Šourek David
Description:
The project analyzes the mutual influence of traffic conditions across different parts of the urban street network and the possibilities of predicting traffic states using CCTV monitoring. The goal is to establish a method for reliably estimating the traffic situation in central areas based on current conditions at the outer cordon. The proposed approach utilizes the probability density of travel times for segments between cameras. This method will enable the prediction of traffic delays, particularly on transit routes and in locations where direct measurements are unavailable (e.g., signalized intersections). The resulting model will serve as a tool for congestion estimation, planning, and urban traffic management, focusing on travel time predictions. The project integrates mathematical modeling, probability theory, statistics, empirical data analysis, simulations, and urban planning principles, combining a multidisciplinary approach with practical applicability. It will also utilize online data from an advanced camera system, provided to DFJP under a contract with the City of Pardubice.
