eng Methods for improved assessment of load-carrying kapacity and fatigue life of existing steel bridges. The paper informs about several prospective methods for reliability assessment of existing steel bridges: 1) determination of loads and stresses using railway information systems and computer simulation, 2) determination of mechanical properties of steel parts from hardness tests, 3) evaluation of safety against failure due to overloading, based on a new definition of Traffic Load Rating Factor and probabilistic simulation, 4) estimation of remaining fatigue life using traffic monitoring, three-parameter rain-flow analysis and Monte Carlo simulation, 5) simple estimate of safe life of a bridge structure with cracks. bridges, fatigue, probability, safety, simulation
