eng	Tracking Railway Cars to Increase Railway Safety	Increasing demand for railway car tracking services, served as an impulse to create the system SIMON (system of intelligent monitoring). This system combines results of two projects of research and development that have been solved within the program EUREKA. The subject matter of JEWEL Project is development and research of new technical devices enabling electronic monitoring of objects on the railroad and searching alternative ways of getting energy for these devices. The project JEWEL is still in development stage, its aim is to achieve standards and certificates for the device to meet EU regulations (TSI standards). It can be assumed that further development will lead to the possibilities of obtaining energy directly from the rail car and optimizing data transfer between the unit and sensors on the rail car. The second Poject RailMap provides users with an Internet map, which includes rail data and information about railway infrastructure.	railway car;safety;monitoring;telematics
