eng Evaluation of operational hardening of the railway wheels surface layers This article focuses on advanced railway wheel steel. The motivation for development of advanced railway wheel steel is explained. Performed analyses is focused on two distinctive areas – first is testing of experimental bainitic steel cast with the aim on comparison of quasi-static tensile strength test and indentation yield strength test, the second is application of indentation yield strength test for evaluation of mechanical properties of very thin layers of standard pearlitic steel after operational degradation. advanced railway wheel steel; bainitic steel; indentation yield strength test; evaluation of operational degradation
