cze Investigation of stresses acting over basal reinforced piled embankments Construction of basal reinforced piled embankments is increasing globally, because embankments with reinforcement and pile can be constructed much more faster than traditional method. Because of those reasons, design guideless are being reviewed and new modifications are proposed. New design methods of basal reinforced piled embankments are also developed at the same time. Due to stress transfer mechanism of basal reinforced piled embankments, strain and stress calculation on geosynthetic has a crucial part both in the design guidelines and during developing new methods. In this study, stress and strain acting over geosynthetic are computed for different pile diameters, different distance between piles and for different reinforcement stiffnesses by using finite element method. Computed strains and stresses over geosynthetic is given after 55, 180 and 1000 days from the beginning of embankment construction. This study is divided into two parts. Construction and observation of the embankment is done at the first part. 12 kPa traffic load is applied to embankment at 180th day in order to reveal potential differences on strains, stresses on geosynthetic. Settlement on the surface on the embankment is also considered during the study. Forces acting over the pile which is situated closest to symmetry line of embankment is also evaluated during this study. Embankment;geosynthetic;stress;strain;soft soil;settlement
