eng	Premature Failures of Railway Axles after Repeated Pressing	Operational fatigue failures of press-fitted railway axle seats were investigated to identify the conditions leading to premature crack formation. The complex microstructural analyses of the steel grade A1N served for detection of the microstructural influence in the initial stage of failure. Numerical analyses were conducted for the quantitative evaluation of the influence of the localized drop in contact pressure due to re-pressing during standard maintenance.	press-fitted seat failure; railway axles; fatigue failure
