Five days of railway engineering, bringing together young researchers from across Europe.
Last week, we welcomed young researchers, PhD students, and lecturers from across Europe as the Rolling Stock Summer School 2026 took place at the Faculty of Transport Engineering at the University of Pardubice. The summer school was organised in collaboration with the University of Huddersfield and Politecnico di Milano.
Over five intensive days, 20 participants from Italy, Hungary, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Czechia explored a wide range of topics related to modern railway vehicles - from vehicle dynamics, wheel-rail interaction and bogie design to modelling, testing, certification, condition monitoring and automatic train operation. The programme combined lectures from university academics and industry experts with hands-on activities and practical demonstrations.
The participants had the opportunity to visit our laboratories and experience multi-body simulation and roller rig measurements. A highlight of the week was the visit to the VÚKV railway test centre in Cerhenice, which gave participants insight into real-world railway vehicle testing.
The participants also worked together on group exercises, bringing together their knowledge, experience and creativity. The results were presented at the end of the week.
The Rolling Stock Summer School 2026 was not only about learning more about railway vehicles. It was also about sharing experience, building new international connections and bringing the next generation of railway engineers and researchers closer together.
