Description:
The current project is a follow on from the initial study of controlled water application carried out in Phase 1 (project no. I04 POB 05). This showed that water has good potential as an option for giving predictable and optimised conditions in the wheel/rail interface for braking. The overall aim for the project is to prove the effectiveness of controlled water addition in rail relevant conditions by developing a demonstrator water dispensing device to trial in the laboratory (using full-scale representative conditions) and on-board railway vehicles in braking tests.
