The aim of the project is to develop a system for diagnostics of rail vehicle running gear based on measurement of vibration, eliminating the influence of track. Today?s commercial systems focus mainly on the diagnostics of rotating parts and involve bearing temperature or vibration monitoring as in stationary machines. The project will deal with mechanical faults such as wheel defects, unstable running behaviour, deteriorated ride comfort and faults of suspension components. The project does not aim at developing complex vehicle diagnostics but a running gear diagnostic subsystem that passes the results to a higher level system of the manufacturer or data store. The main goal is to define the principles and procedures of data evaluation which will be validated by tests in real operation.
