The use of Dry-Ice Blasting to give Predictable and Optimised Braking Conditions

Provider: Rail Safety and Standards Board Limited
Programme: R&D programme
Implementation period: 01.06.17 - 30.11.18
Workplace: Dopravní fakulta Jana Pernera - Výukové a výzkumné centrum v dopravě
Investigator: Lata Michael
Team member: Pokorný Jan | Voltr Petr | Kohout Martin
Description:
The current project is a follow on from the initial study of dry-ice application carried out in Phase 1 (project no. I04 POB 03). This showed that dry-ice has great potential as an option for giving predictable and optimised conditions in the wheel/rail interface for braking and for rail head cleaning. The overall aim for the project is to develop a demonstrator dry-ice application device and trial it in the laboratory (using full-scale representative conditions) and on-board railway vehicles in braking tests and rail head cleaning scenarios.
