eng Cyclic response of non-seismically detailed beam-column joint under lateral loading The seismic performance of a non-seismically detailed exterior beam-column joint is investigated by experimental and numerical methods. The tested specimen has specific structural deficiencies such as the insufficient transverse reinforcement in the joint and the improper material qualities resulting from the use of low strength concrete and plain round bars. Quasi-static cyclic loading, which represents earthquake excitation, was applied up to 4% drift ratio to observe the different levels of structural damage. The tested specimen displayed a non-ductile behavior with the concentration of shear cracks mostly in the joint panel. On the other hand, no remarkable cracks were observed in the rest of the RC components of the specimen. The specimen could attain the lateral load capacity up to a drift ratio of 2% without any significant strength deterioration. However, in the subsequent drift levels, the specimen failed when the joint panel is severely damaged, which results in a distinct strength deterioration and stiffness degradation in the force displacement response. The generated FEM model is employed to notice the progress of stress development and crack patterns in depth. The results of the numerical approach were in good agreement with the experimental results.
